How much of my £5 actually goes to Africa?
What is the time frame for building the school?
The £5 School is an initiative of Abaana, a charity based in Bangor, Northern Ireland which aims to make a difference and share God's love with children in Africa. Set up in 1997, the charity has raised over £1,500,000 to build schools, provide clean water, medical care, work with street children and make education available for impoverished children through our child sponsorship scheme. Due to this work, over 5,000 children are helped on a daily basis.
Please see www.abaana.org for more details.
You will see exactly how the money was spent.
Once we get enough money, we will start the building of the school. We will take photos of each stage and upload them on the website. You will be able to see your money in action. When completed we will get some video footage up.
Currently we can build a school for just under £50,000. There are many factors that affect this: exchange rate (can vary by 10%), the cost of goods in Africa etc. We will provide full information on the cost of the school closer to the time.
